<BODY style=\"FONT-SIZE: 9pt; MARGIN: 5px; FONT-FAMILY: gulim; BACKGROUND-COLOR: #fff\"> Exchange Agreement with the Saudi Arabian Cultural Mission in South Korea Participate in the Saudi Exhibition on Higher Education from April 19-22 to Attract local Students [March 11, 2011] Yeungnam University (president Lee, Hyo-soo) began full-fledged exchange with Saudi Arabia for the first time among universities in the provinces. In the morning of the 10th, Yeungnam University signed an exchanged agreement with the Saudi Arabian Cultural Mission in South Korea (headed by Turki Fahad Al-Ayyar), and promised to cooperate in constructing a global partnership for joint research and academic exchange, opening of short and long-term educational courses and student exchange, as well as exchange of academic materials. <A class=imageUtil id=thumb_019892983037089035 onclick=\"return hs.run(this)\" href=\"http://www.yu.ac.kr/_yboard-2011/cheditor/show_image.php?im=__2011-04-04_09-55-21_1105.jpg\" target=_blank> At this signing ceremony, president of the university, Lee, Hyo-soo, stated, \"Our University has a globalization goal of attracting 4,000 international students from 77 countries across the world, and so I am very happy that we have taken our first step in attracting students from the Middle East.\" Turki Fahad Al-Ayyar of the Saudi Arabian Cultural Mission in South Korea replied, \"I have never seen such a beautiful campus with a peaceful atmosphere like Yeungnam University anywhere in the world,\" adding, \"Our students are highly interested in the medical and pharmaceutical sector, and thus I am happy that we will begin interchanging with Yeungnam University, which has great tradition and strengths capacities in both academic sectors.\" Through this agreement, Yeungnam University also gained the opportunity to bid for the \'King Adullah Scholarship Student\'. The King Abdulla Scholarship Student are students who receive national funding to study overseas as part of the human resource fostering plans of the government of Saudi Arabia, and currently, about 100,000 students are studying abroad in undergraduate and graduate courses at the world\'s top 200 universities, which is posted in the website of the Saudi Arabian Cultural Mission. Since signing the educational agreement with the government of Saudi Arabia in March 2007, over 140 students were sent to Korea, but most of them are studying in universities in the Seoul. However, with this agreement between Yeungnam University and the Saudi Arabia Cultural Mission in South Korea, there is now a higher possibility to attract King Abdullah Scholarship Students in this province. <BODY style=\"FONT-SIZE: 9pt; MARGIN: 5px; FONT-FAMILY: gulim; BACKGROUND-COLOR: #fff\"> No longer concentrating only on US, China and Japan. Diversification to Netherlands, Finland, Poland, Slovenia, etc 1,262 international students from 37 countries including 82 exchange students studying at Yeungnam University [Mar 8, 2011] “Slovenia may not be a familiar country to most people, but as a student majoring in sociology, it is a country that is very fascinating. I think it is a great fortune and opportunity to be able to study at the University of Ljubljana where the new star in philosophy since the 90s, Slavoj Zizek, is working as a professor. I will study hard and give a good impression of Korean university students.\" Choi, Byeong-jun (23), a junior majoring in sociology at Yeungnam University, set off for Slovenia in late February. He will be studying this semester as an exchange student at Slovenia\'s best university, which is known for its academic traditions of its culture of debating freely and its academic independence to the point that each and every scholar is said to be a separate research institute. <A class=imageUtil id=thumb_08304723273108052 onclick=\"return hs.run(this)\" href=\"http://www.yu.ac.kr/_yboard-2011/cheditor/show_image.php?im=__2011-04-04_09-39-45_1102.jpg\" target=_blank> Last summer, Yeungnam University invited 102 students from 14 countries and hosted the International Youth Festival for seven days. This event acted as a window to connect the province and Yeungnam University with the rest of the world. Like Choi, there are a total of 210 Yeungnam University students being sent off to sister schools overseas on scholarships for studying abroad. Because overseas scholarship students are exempt from all tuition at the local school according to the sister school agreement with Yeungnam University and since they can also earn credits, students compete fiercely for this opportunity. This semester, Yeungnam University selected a total of 210 overseas scholarship students - 144 exchange students, 62 being sent to overseas campus, 2 for double diplomas, and 1 each in the language training course by invitation of the Taiwanese government and the language training course at the Confucius Academy. In late February, they were sent to 55 schools across the world. The nations of the universities were also diversified to 12 countries. In the past, they were concentrated to the US, Japan and China, but now they are being sent to France, Germany, Finland, as well as Eastern European nations such as Poland and Slovenia. When considering that just three years ago in the first semester of 2008 overseas scholarship students were sent to seven countries such as the US and Asian countries, it shows just how much the global partnership has expanded and diversified. Meanwhile, in this semester, there are a total of 1,262 international students from 37 countries at Yeungnam University including 82 foreign exchange students from 10 countries including the US, Japan, China, Vietnam, Netherlands, Poland, Finland, and Slovenia. Yeungnam University has also opened the School of International Studies that conduct classes only in English for international students, while also offering various culture experience and exchange programs to act as a \'national PR center\' to let the world know about Korea.

<BODY style=\"FONT-SIZE: 9pt; MARGIN: 5px; FONT-FAMILY: gulim; BACKGROUND-COLOR: #fff\"> Hosting the First Korea-ASEAN Youth Exchange and Culture Community Construction Project \'Harmony of Asia\', University students from 11 countries in Asia to participate at Yeungnam University from Feb. 20 to March 1. [February 17, 2011] “Find the Tastes of Asia and the Sounds of Asia!” \'Harmony of Asia\', where university students from Korea and the 10 ASEAN countries will gather at one place to make the taste (food) and sound (music) of Asia, will begin on the 20th lasting to the 1st of the next month at Yeungnam University. Yeungnam University (president Lee, Hyo-soo) was recently selected as the host institute for the \'Korea-ASEAN Youth Exchange and Culture Community Construction Project\', which is part of the cooperative project of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). ASEAN is a regional cooperative organization with the goal for searching for joint potential cooperation for the joint security and independence in Southeast Asia. It was first established in August 8, 1967 and currently, there are 10 member countries (Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, Brunei, Vietnam, Laos, Myanmar and Cambodia). Thus, Yeungnam University, centering on the Multi-cultural Education & Research Institute (director Park, Seung-woo), will host the \'Harmony of Asia\', a 10 day 9 night festival on the theme of culture with the cooperation of AUN (ASEAN University Network). This event will proceed in the course of finding the \'Sound of Asia\' and \'Food of Asia\', from the music and food that contains the unique and special sentiment and environment of each country. For this, various experience and exchange programs are being prepared such as Samulnori performances, Nanta performances, instrument-making program \'Drum Circle\', food making program \'Noodle of Asia\', visits to POSCO and Yangdong-Folk Village, the invitational part \'The One\' for multi-cultural families, etc. Participates will include 46 university students selected from the 10 ASEAN countries and 10 Yeungnam University students for a total of 56 participants. During the event, they will be grouped into seven teams and take on their mission of finding a \'Food of Asia\' and \'Sound of Asia\'. <A class=imageUtil id=thumb_06896620600785592 onclick=\"return hs.run(this)\" href=\"http://www.yu.ac.kr/_yboard-2011/cheditor/show_image.php?im=__2011-04-01_09-29-01_1079.jpg\" target=_blank> Moreover, at this event, under the general supervision of art director Park Jeong-ho (Percussion Group HATA), domestic and foreign percussion instruments will participate as mentors to help the students find the \'Sound of Asia\'. Park, Seung-woo, director of the Yeungnam University Multi-cultural Education & Research Institute (51, Department of Sociology), who is in charge of this event, stated, \"Though the Korea-ASEAN FTA went into effect in June 2007, there is little movement for constructing a Korea-ASEAN cultural community. This is because compared to the economy, there is a high cultural barrier that is very distinct. Through this event, Yeungnam University will take the lead in promoting mutual understanding and a sense of unity among Asians, while also further promoting exchange and cooperation.\"
